Spousal Support

Spousal support or alimony is an issue in divorce cases and it can be temporary or permanent depending on the circumstances of the particular case. There are different types of alimony. The courts consider different factors to determine if alimony is to be awarded, and if so the type of alimony, the amount of alimony and the duration of alimony. Depending on the type of alimony, the alimony can be modifiable or non-modifiable. With the recent tax changes, alimony is no longer taxable to the recipient and deductible by the paying party.
